Intramuscular Abscess Forearm Inflammatory Intramuscular Collection Estimated reading: 1 minute 274 views Contributors Clinical History A 51-year old man presented with an acute large swelling on the left forearm with erythema and tenderness. Case Description Ultrasound performed using a linear transducer at 14 MHz revealed a large hypervascular collection within the intramuscular layer of the affected forearm suggestive of an abscess. Diagnosis/ Discussion/ Treatment/ Follow up A further ultrasound performed 3 months later revealed a significant reduction in the said collection, still some internal vascularity, and a tract to the skin surface suggestive of a resolving collection.
