Jugular Jugular Vein Thrombus Caused by a Supraclavicular Mass Estimated reading: 1 minute 270 views Contributors Clinical History A 69-year old male presented with a sudden onset of pain and swelling of his left upper limb after a recent insertion of a pacemaker device. A vascular ultrasound was requested to examine his upper limb veins for deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Case Description Ultrasound using a multifrequency linear transducer set at 8 MHz revealed an occlusive thrombus in the entire left subclavian vein adjacent to the pacemaker (jugular vein thrombus). Diagnosis/ Discussion/ Treatment/ Follow up The result was urgently sent to the referring clinician who commenced the patient on the appropriate anticoagulation therapy.
